Have you noticed something? It's March. Soooo happy that February is over. It was a doozy this year. I kept up making things through the month, but just couldn't bring myself to blog about them. Too bummed out by half.
Usually I exercise, and do all sorts of things to help stave off falling too much down the dark hole of seasonal depression that hits me in February, but this year was different. I couldn't exercise much because of the sore foot. I didn't fight against the blues. I just sat with them. Quietly gave them a cup of coffee and waited for them to get bored and leave. Which they did, promptly on March 1.
Seriously.
There's a lesson in there somewhere.
What did I make?
Well, there was another rug. This one was called Tree on A Lake and it took awhile to wrap my head around what I wanted it to be.
It came with a plaid wool shirt in the mix, which was hard to cut up but thankfully had been felted already so it didn't fit anyone.
I ended up taking the colours that should have been the water (three shades of blue and some white) and making them a night sky. Then overdyed some of the plaid to make the water murky. And as I hit the ground, I realized that bright sand wouldn't work at night, so I found three shades of green/brown at my local fabric store that were deeply discounted and labelled 100% wool. When I got them home and tossed them in a hot water wash, they refused to felt (100% wool, I don't think so) but I used them anyway, liking the texture they added.
I like to learn things, and on this one I learned that I needed more contrast between the value of the water and the value of the tree. It all kinda blends together. Now I know.
It's very dark, but so was this month for me.
I also made my husband a shirt for his birthday.
With a custom label.
How sweet is that?
And I knitted myself a sweater, that's going to be reworked a bit.
I misread the instructions when it came to shaping the shawl collar and made it way too long. I thought I would just leave it but it doesn't want to stay on my shoulders, so I'll rip it back and fix it.
My husband and I took off for a few days too. We went to the lake, which is my favourite place.
Full of February sunsets and snowshoeing in places you can't usually get to easily.
It was awesome, but way too short.
So that was February.
I just noticed when I was putting together this post, that the blues are really blue this year.
March is going to be filled with colour. I'm working on a new rug that's full of red and green and some blue too. Then there's some new clothing in the works - some jeans and a couple of Liberty (sigh) shirts. I fine tuned the fit of the Archer in February too. Forward shoulder, wide upper back and full bust. ummmm. Tasty.
It's going to be a good one!
